X-rays are emitted from extremely "hot" regions with temperatures exceeding ten million degrees, or from high-energy particles moving at speeds close to the speed of light. Today, we know that X-rays are emitted not only from black holes and neutron stars, but from all layers of the universe — from planets and comets to clusters of galaxies. Using instruments aboard satellites, we obtain and analyze the X-ray data from celestial objects to unravel the mysteries of high-energy phenomena in the universe.

For IPC applicants: If you are interested in applying for the IPC program and require an LCA from the X-ray astronomy group, please ensure to contact the faculty members at least four weeks before the official IPC application deadline. Link to details
